Brazilian Sweets: White Brigadeiros (Branquinhos)

Jump to Recipe

There are so many delicious Brazilian Sweets, and Branquinhos are one of them! Branquinho means little white in English and this is the white and chocolate-free version of a Brigadeiro. In a nutshell, they are sweetened condensed milk truffles.

Just like Brigadeiros, you will see them in kids birthday parties and many other events. They are sold in supermarkets, little markets, simple places or fancy stores. They are everywhere!

They are usually served like the picture but you can also serve branquinhos in beautiful spoons, making individual servings. Another way to serve is by using small plastic cups.

📋 Ingredients

You only need 3 ingredients to make this white brigadeiro recipe:

  • sweetened condensed milk
  • butter
  • granulated sugar (or sprinkles) for coating.

🍳 How to make it

Making branquinhos is easy and can be a lot of fun.

Place sweetened condensed milk and butter in a pan and cook it over medium heat until it thickens and you can see the bottom of the pan when running a wooden spoon though it.

Let it cool completely before proceeding! The mixture will be VERY hot.

Grease your hands with some butter and make small balls of 1 inch - 2,5cm in diameter.

Finish forming all the balls and then roll them in granulated sugar (or sprinkles).

Place in mini cupcake liners

Enjoy!

⏲️ Can I make them ahead?

Of course! Branquinhos can - and should - be made ahead of time. They will keep for up to three days at room temperature (in an airtight container).

❄️ Can I freeze them?

Why not? Branquinhos freeze very well. After rolling them in sugar, place them side by side in a baking tray and then place the tray in the freezer. When they have frozen, transfer to a sealable bag. They will be best for up to month, but still will be good for up to 3 months.

When you want to serve them, just remove from freezer, place in liners and arrange in serving dish.

Even frozen, they are great - as they will not be hard!

💭 Tips and Variations

  • You can use different sugars to roll them - even colored sugar
  • Colored sprinkles make them fun, and white ones make them super classy!
  • You can also use desiccated coconut to roll them into
  • If you add chocolate, you make Brigadeiros.
  • If you add coconut, you make Beijinhos.
