The Best Brazilian Beef Stroganoff

Classic Party Dish in my country, this Brazilian Beef Stroganoff is amazing! It's traditionally made with beef tenderloin but you can use cheaper meats to make it an everyday dish.

Brazilian Beef Stroganoff

Beef Stroganoff is a Russian dish but it has many different versions around the world. Today I'm sharing with you the Brazilian version.

When I was younger, every party served Beef Stroganoff. From big parties to small dinner gatherings at home. It was something fancy 🙂 When I got older things changed a little. People continued to eat it but it was no longer a part of party menus. It became more popular as people started to use cheaper meats to make it an everyday dish.

So a few weeks ago my mom told me she was going to make Beef Stroganoff and I asked her to make the tradicional one, exactly like the ones from my childhood. She got it so right! And here is the recipe!

Brazilian Beef Stroganoff

What are ingredients for a classic Brazilian dish?

For this recipe you'll need vegetable oil, beef tenderloin, garlic, onion, tomato paste, ketchup, heavy cream, canned mushrooms and salt.

Can I use a cheaper substitute for beef tenderloin?

The next best option would be a cut like sirloin, but you could choose another you like.

Can I use fresh mushrooms instead of canned mushrooms?

For a traditional recipe you should use canned mushrooms, but you could substitute for fresh ones. I think the reason we use canned mushrooms is because in the past we didn't have fresh mushrooms available around here.

How to make Beef Stroganoff?

You will start by heating a large pan and adding vegetable oil and beef. Cook for a few minutes, add garlic, onion and a little bit of water. When beef is cooked, add salt, to taste. Add tomato paste, ketchup and then mushrooms. Remove from heat, add heavy cream and stir. Add salt, to taste.

What to serve with Brazilian Beef Stroganoff?

It's very important to serve it with rice and potato sticks (shoestring fries)! You can find potato sticks here. It won't be the same, but you could substitute the potato sticks for very thin French fries.
