This quick and easy Chocolate Fondue is a great dessert for the whole family. And it can be more than a dessert. With little effort, it can be an experience 🙂

🤔 What is it?
Fondue is a dish of Swiss origin served on a large pot containing the main ingredient, in a portable stove (so it is kept warm) where the eaters dip other foods with a long stemmed fork in order to cover them with the main ingredient.
Traditionally the main ingredient is cheese and bread is dipped on it. But the one I'm talking about here is a chocolate fondue where you'll dip pieces of fruit in.
😕 Do I need special equipment to make it?
Nope! There is no need to have any special equipment to make chocolate fondue.
If you have a fondue pot that would be perfect, as you'll place it over the warmer and keep the chocolate from becoming too thick.
But if you have a chocolate fountain you can use it, although I think it is more fun to dip the fruit in the chocolate than to stick it under the chocolate. After all, isn't a well drawn bath a better experience than a plain shower?
You could even use a small slow cooker to serve the chocolate (to keep it warm) or, like I did, in order to make this quick and easy, use a regular microwavable pot and just reheat the chocolate if necessary!
🍓 What goes with chocolate fondue?
I really like to use fresh fruits. In my opinion the best fruits for chocolate fondue are bananas, strawberries and grapes, but you can use blackberries, blueberies, apples, oranges and melon.
You can also serve it with cookies (mini Oreos are great), marshmallows, and wafers.
As you can see, anything that goes with chocolate goes with chocolate fondue 😉 That's the beauty of making it a quick dessert!
📋 Ingredients
As I've said, the beauty of this recipe is that you can make it simple or fancy as you wish.
To make chocolate fondue the basic ingredients are:
- good quality chocolate bars
- heavy cream
- fresh fruits like strawberries, bananas and apples (but any other will do)
- cookies and marshmallows (optional)
⏱️ How to make it quick and easy?
As I've said, chocolate fondue can be a whole family experience, but it can also be a quick and easy dessert. And this is what I'm trying to show here.
Clean and cut the fruit, remove cookies from package (if using), then heat some heavy cream in a microwavable pot, put the chopped chocolate in it, mix until it is melted and that's it! Ready to serve. You've got fondue in under 10 minutes!
As you can see on the pictures we used bananas and strawberries, our favorite fruits for a chocolate fondue. But you can use any other fruit you like.
The way to fancy it up is to have more dipping ingredients!
⚠️ Important tips
- The heavy cream should not boil as it is heated.
- If the chocolate doesn't melt, you can microwave the mixture for more 30 seconds and then stir it again.
- The fruits should be dry. If there is water on them, the chocolate won't stick.
