Microwave Caramel Sauce

When I published a recipe for blondies I said that even though we don't make it that often, it's a must-have recipe for everyone that likes sweets and baking. That's the same for a caramel sauce. You may not make it frequently but it's nice to have a recipe you like and trust, so you can make it whenever you need it.

Ingredients

  • sugar
  • corn syrup
  • water
  • unsalted butter
  • heavy cream
  • vanilla extract
  • salt

How to make it

  • In a microwave-safe bowl mix sugar, corn syrup and water. Heat it in the microwave for 2 minutes - until it reaches a dark yellow color.
  • Remove from microwave and add heavy cream, butter and vanilla extract. When you pour these ingredients the mixture will boil - be careful - and mix well. Add a pinch of salt and mix again.
  • Use immediately or keep it in the fridge for a few days. If the caramel sauce thickens, heat it in the microwave for around 20 seconds.

Important

  • Microwave ovens vary so be careful. The first time you make this recipe, heat it for 1 minute, take a look and add remaining time, if needed.

      Hello!
Golden syrup is made from sugar and corn syrup is made from corn. They look kind of similar but they taste different. Corn syrup has a much milder taste compared to golden syrup. But I think you could substitute for golden syrup. Let me know how it turns out.
