🤔 What is it?

Fondue is a dish of Swiss origin served on a large pot containing with main ingredient, in a way that it is kept warm and the people having it will dip other foods with a long stemmed fork in it.

The main ingredient usually is cheese with bread as the dipping companion. But this here is a dulce de leche fondue where you'll dip pieces of apples and bananas in 😋

😕 Do I need special equipment to make it?

No! You do not need any special equipment to make dulce de leche fondue.

A fondue pot can be used, of course, as it will placed over a warmer to keep the dulce de leche warm.

You can use a small slow cooker (to keep it warm) or, like I did, use a regular microwavable pot and just reheat the dulce de leche if necessary - and there is no risk of burning it!

🍏 What goes with dulce de leche fondue?

In my opinion the best fruits for dulce de leche fondue are bananas and a mix of apples - sweet and tart ones.

You can also use pears, wafers, cookies and marshmallows.

📋 Ingredients

This is a simple recipe and there is no need for a lot of ingredients.

To make dulce de leche fondue you will need:

  • dulce de leche (you can make your own using a slow cooker or the oven)
  • heavy cream
  • bananas
  • a mix of sweet and tart apples (Gala, Fuji, Granny Smith and Pink Lady)
  • some lemon juice to mix with the apples so they don't get brown
  • pears, wafers, cookies and marshmallows (optional)

⏱️ How to make it quick and easy?

I don't think there is actually a way of making this complicated!

Clean and cut the fruit, remove cookies and marshmallow from package (if using), then mix the dulce de leche with the heavy cream, heat it and serve! It's ready in less than 10 minutes!

⚠️ Important tips

  • The dulce de leche and heavy cream mixture gets VERY hot - caution when you have it, specially if kids are at the table.
  • If it cools too much, reheat it again (if not using a fondue pot or slow cooker).
