24 hours in Lisbon, Portugal

Published: Oct 5, 2014 · Modified: Jul 24, 2020 by Andrea - 4 Comments

What do you do when you only have 24 hours in Lisbon, Portugal? Find out here! But I can tell you now, we covered the most important attractions in Lisbon 🙂

24 hours in lisbon

Our visit to Lisbon was quick, only 24 hours. That's where our cruise was leaving from and we decided to go one day earlier to take a look at the city. We had a wonderful time and saw a lot! We know there are a lot of things to do in Lisbon but I could say we covered the most important ones!

We arrived very early in the morning, check in at the hotel and began our tour.

We walked around the Centro Histórico (Historic Center) and visited the Elevador de Santa Justa (Santa Justa Elevator), passed by  the ruins of Convento do Carmo and Praça do Comércio (Comercio Square) and had lunch in the region.

We strolled around Chiado and got on a train to Belém where we ate the famous pastéis. We visited Mosteiro dos Jerônimos (Jeronimos Monastery). It's so beautiful, it looks like a huge sandle castle!

Later we went up Padrão dos Descobrimentos (Discoveries Monument), which offers a very nice view! From there we went to Torre de Belém (Belem Tower).

Wait ... there's more 🙂

We took a bus back to Rossio and got on an eléctrico (tram) to Castelo de São Jorge (Castle of St George). We had a snack, walked a little and enjoyed the amazing views!

We then went back to the hotel and went out later for dinner. After dinner we went to Centro Comercial Colombo and took the subway back to the hotel at around midnight.

To do all this we bought the 24 hour Lisboa Card, which gave us access to all transportation, free admission to Elevador Santa Justa, Mosteiro dos Jerônimos and Torre de Belém and also a discount on Padrão dos Descobrimentos and Castelo de São Jorge.

We had an incredible day and will definitely go back in the future! And even though we only had 24 hours in Lisbon, we probably saw more than many people see in 2 or 3 days!

If you don't know where to stay in Lisbon, we stayed at Dom Carlos Park Hotel and highly recommend it! And for more hotels in Lisbon, click here.

I loved Lisbon as well! I still dream about the pasteis de belem, worth the trip out to Belem for sure. I can't believe how much you fit into that one day! I never made it up the Santa Justa elevator, wish I had. You got some great shots!

Great post! Lisbon is so compact and walkable that you can definitely see a lot in 24 hours. The Pasteis de Belem are so delicious!
