On the first time we went to Disneyland in Anaheim, California, we had 4 days to visit the 2 parks. We had more than enough time to do everything we wanted and repeat our favorite attractions.
*Our visit was in 2016 but every information is updated to 2018.
Years later we were back in California but had only one day to visit both parks. We knew we would have to be selective when choosing what to see and do. We also knew we would have to wake up very early to arrive at the parks as soon as they were open. It was definitely the most tiring day of our trip, but it was so worth it! Here I’ll show you everyhting we were able to do on this magical day! Enjoy Disneyland California visiting 2 Parks in 1 Day!
Our main goal was to visit Cars Land at Disney’s California Adventure, so the first thing we did was to get our Fastpasses for Radiator Spring Racers. In Anaheim you still have to get paper Fastpasses (unless you have the MaxPass). After getting our Fastpasses we went to California Screamin’ (now Incredicoaster), which was closed last time we were there. It was open this time and we were very excited about going on this roller coaster! Thankfully the line was very small and we just loved the ride!
We then went to a ride that we love: Toy Story Midway Mania! Right after we went to Goofy’s Sky School. We really don’t like this ride, but Isabella insisted (the things you do for your kids…). Our next stop was Monsters Inc – Mike and Sully to the Rescue and Tower of Terror, now Guardians of the Galaxy.
It was almost time for our Fastpass window so we just passed by Bug’s Land on our way to Cars Land.
If you have watched the movie Cars you will be amazed with this area. It’s just perfect!
The Radiator Spring Racers ride is similar to Test Track at Epcot, but in Radiator Springs! We loved it so much! We tried to get another fastpass but distribution was over for the day 🙁
We had lunch at Flo’s V8 Café and went to Disneyland Park. Just a quick reminder: you need a park hopper ticket to go to both parks.
Have you booked your hotel?
We always choose our hotels as soon as we set the travel date to get great prices. And to do this we use Booking.com. It is the easiest way to search for available hotels, best location, and of course, the best price.
We entered Disneyland Park, walked through Main Street and headed to Tomorrow Land to visit Star Wars Launch Bay and get Fastpasses for Hyperspace Mountain (Star Wars themed Space Mountain) – for 9pm!
We met Chewbacca at Star Wars Launch Bay and then headed to Star Tours (we waited 50 minutes in line!)
One thing we really wanted to do was to see Radiator Springs (Cars Land) at night, so we went back to Disney’s California Adventure!
We tried to ride California Screamin again but it was temporarily closed so we went back to Disneyland! We went straight to get a Fastpass for Indiana Jones Adventure. Tip: check the Fastpass you already have to see what time you can get another one.
It was nighttime and we realized we hadn’t seen Mickey! So we went to Toontown!
Toontown was going to close in a few minutes so we ran like crazy to get there 🙂
We made it! We talked a little to our buddy and then went to Fantasyland to ride It’s a Small World (there was no line) to rest a little 🙂 We still had some time left before our Fastpass window so we decided to have something to eat at Galactic Grill. We were so lucky because at the time we sat to eat, the fireworks began and we had the most amazing view of it!
It was time for Hyperspace Mountain. It’s so awesome! Even better than regular Space Mountain!
When we left this ride it was time for Indiana Jones Adventure! We still had some time so we ended our day with of one of our favorites: Big Thunder Mountain! We left the park at 10PM, completely exausted! But we managed to go for a quick walk at Downtown Disney.
It was a total of 15 hours in both parks! Would we do it again? In a heartbeat!
Some things to take into consideration:
- Check both parks schedules to optimize your time.
- Consider going first to the park where your favorite attraction is, specially if you’ll need a Fastpass for riding it.
- You won’t be able to see and do everything so make a list of must-do rides.
- Download Disneyland’s app so you can keep track on wait times for each attraction. You can also check while you are home so you can decide which attractions are important to get a Fastpass.
- Get Fastpasses ASAP. Some end very quickly.
- If you are not in a hurry to leave the park go to a ride a few minutes before the park closes. If you are already in line, you’ll be able to to go on this ride.
- Hungry? Try to eat at alternative times so you won’t wait so much to get your food.
- If watching the fireworks is not on the top of your list, take this time to go to a ride. Lines tend to get shorter.
Where to stay:
Great price, it’s a 30-minute walk from Disneyland and if you don’t wanna go walking, take an Uber/Lyft.
Excellent, walking distance to Disney (like 10 minutes) and with a small water park that kids love!
